Sometimes a “Closed for Construction” sign means a fabulous makeover is underway. Other times, it’s restaurant-speak for “Thanks for the memories. We’re never coming back.”
Fortunately, Copper Blues Desert Ridge at Desert Ridge Marketplace falls into the first category.
After two years of radio silence, the live music hotspot is back with a fresh look, a revamped menu, a new attitude, and enough musical ambition to make its former self look like the opening act.
Taking center stage is Nick Jonsson, general manager of Copper Blues Live, whose hospitality résumé includes OHSO Brewery, PV Pie and Wine, and RA Sushi. He’s now tasked with turning Copper Blues’ long-awaited comeback into a headlining performance.
“The goal of the remodel was to improve the overall aesthetic, improve our menu, and change the whole vibe from a rock pub to a live music pub, so we have a little bit more of a variety of music,” says Jonsson.
Translation: The rock ‘n’ roll isn’t going anywhere, but the playlist is getting a serious personality upgrade.
One of the renovation’s biggest undertakings wasn’t particularly glamorous, but it was essential: rebuilding and reengineering the soundproof wall separating Copper Blues from its attached next-door neighbor, Desert Ridge Improv.
When open, the wall creates one enormous entertainment space. When closed, it keeps live music from crashing a comedy show, and comedians from delivering unsolicited punchlines during guitar solos. Everybody wins.
“We had to undertake that, fine tune the menu, improve the overall look, and make it feel a little more warm and a little more dressed up than it was before,” says Jonsson.

A Rock Star’s Gotta Eat… And Imbibe
The Copper Nachos are an outrageously oversized mountain of tortilla chips smothered in cheddar-Jack cheese, beans, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, queso, and chipotle sour cream. Add chicken, carne asada, birria, or guacamole, and you’ve got enough food to feed the band. Possibly the roadies, too.
The smash-style Copper Burger doesn’t believe in moderation, either. Two patties, bacon, caramelized onions, roasted mushrooms, American cheese, baby arugula, and tangy Copper sauce come stacked together with fries. Napkins are not optional.
Other menu contenders include the Rock ‘N Rice Bowl, flatbreads, steak frites, salads, and hot sandwiches.
Naturally, the cocktails have their own stage presence.
The Dragon Fruit Cosmo is a colorful, sweet little number with a dehydrated dragon fruit slice floating on top like a tropical fashion accessory.
The Lychee Martini brings Grey Goose Berry Rouge vodka, St-Germain, lime juice, and lychee fruit to the party. An Espresso Martini, Yuzu Lemon Drop, signature Coppertini, wines, and beers on tap round out the liquid lineup.
But the real star of Copper Blues isn’t on the menu.
The entire venue curves around the elevated stage, making live music the main attraction rather than something happening in the corner while everyone checks their phones.
For music lovers who want to get exceptionally close to the action, there’s even a full bar with seating right at the base of the stage. It’s practically a backstage pass, minus the laminated badge and questionable band behavior.
After two years in the dark, Copper Blues Desert Ridge is back with a bigger appetite, a broader offering of live music, and a whole new reason to grab the microphone.
And with live band karaoke on the horizon, the next big rock star at Copper Blues might just be the person sitting next to you. God help us all.
