Insider Info

Harkins has been doing the movie thing since 1933, when 18-year-old Dwight “Red” Harkins opened his first theatre in Tempe. Teen dream? More like Arizona cinema dynasty.

Arizona summer has entered the chat, which means shade, snacks, and air conditioning are officially part of the survival plan.

Luckily, Harkins is bringing back one of its most beloved warm-weather rituals. Harkins Summer Movie Fun returns to the big screen on Monday, June 1, 2026, giving kids a cool, low-key, popcorn-adjacent escape during the hottest stretch of the year.

The annual kids’ movie program has been part of the Harkins universe for more than 50 years, serving up family-friendly films when Arizona families need indoor plans the most. This year, moviegoers ages 13 and under can catch one movie per week for eight weeks with Summer Movie Fun Digital Season Tickets, priced at $8.

All Summer Movie Fun shows begin at 9:45 a.m., with movies playing every weekday through Friday, July 24. The 2026 lineup brings a little chaos, a little adventure, a little animation, and at least one mystery into the mix.

The schedule kicks off June 1 through 5 with Dog Man, followed by A Minecraft Movie from June 8 through 12 and KPop Demon Hunters from June 15 through 19. How to Train Your Dragon (2025) lands June 22 through 26, The Bad Guys 2 takes over June 29 through July 3, and a Mystery Movie arrives July 6 through 10.

Then it is back to familiar favorites, with SpongeBob: The Search for SquarePants playing July 13 through 17 and Paddington in Peru wrapping the series July 20 through 24.

There is also a snack perk, because Harkins knows the assignment. Harkins Awards members who purchase Summer Movie Fun Digital Season Tickets receive a one-time-use voucher for 50% off one Kids Combo, which includes popcorn, fruit snacks, and a 12-ounce fountain drink.

Digital Season Tickets are available now at theatre box offices and online at Harkins.com. Tickets are delivered straight to guests’ inboxes each week, ready for showtime.

Harkins, which has been delivering moviegoing experiences for more than 90 years, remains the largest independently owned theatre company in the country. For Arizona families, Summer Movie Fun is less about simply watching a movie and more about having a standing date with cold air, big screens, and kid-approved entertainment.

In other words, summer plans just got handled.
