At D.A.Ranch, the Wine Wednesday cocktail program follows the same rhythm as the vineyard itself, shaped by the seasons, the harvest, and the ingredients grown on the property. That approach now moves into print with the release of “D.A.Ranch Wine Cocktail Recipes,” a new recipe book that brings the ranch’s wine-based cocktails into a format guests can take home, built around estate-grown ingredients and the evolving flavors of the Verde Valley.
The idea began, fittingly, in the orchard. When one peach harvest produced more fruit than the property could keep up with, that excess turned into preserves, then into cocktail ingredients, and eventually into an evolving series of seasonal recipes. What started as small-batch experimentation became a creative extension of the ranch itself.
“I’ve always loved the idea of people being able to recreate something they enjoyed here at home,” says Jana Valentine, tasting room manager at D.A.Ranch. “When we have our preserves in season, it’s nice for guests to take home a jar along with a bottle of wine they loved. I have so many people asking how we make the wine cocktails, so putting it into a recipe book just made sense.”
Set along Oak Creek in the Verde Valley, D.A.Ranch has built its identity around wines that reflect place and season. That same mindset carries into the cocktail program, where fresh fruit, herbs, cactus, and house-made preserves are used in place of pre-made syrups, resulting in flavors that feel brighter, more balanced, and closely tied to the land.
Now collected and refined, the book includes recipes from the past year along with updated versions that reflect ongoing tweaks and improvements. At the same time, it leaves room for variation, acknowledging that each harvest brings something new.
“D.A.Ranch Wine Cocktail Recipes” highlights include:
- Seasonal inspiration: Recipes that follow the rhythm of the year, from winter pours like Warm Willow Cider layered with spiced citrus and orchard fruit, to late-summer favorites like Peachy Willow built around freshly harvested peaches at peak ripeness.
- Estate-driven ingredients: Cocktails crafted with fresh fruit, herbs, cactus, and house-made preserves sourced directly from the ranch, creating flavors that feel vibrant, natural, and connected to the property.
- Guest favorites: Standouts such as the Watermelon Lemon Spritz, a crisp, refreshing blend with bright citrus notes, and Prickly Lime, a bold, slightly tart cocktail that captures the color and character of prickly pear in season.
- A no spirits approach: Every cocktail is wine-based, with flavor developed through infusion rather than traditional liquors or bitters, allowing the wine to remain the foundation of each pour.
- Creative flexibility: Encouragement for readers to experiment with their own preserves and pairings at home, from enhancing subtle tasting notes to building entirely new combinations.
For Valentine, inspiration starts with what is happening both in the vineyard and in the moment.
“Season plays a huge role, not only for fruit, but for the mood, the weather, even fun holidays,” she says. “January calls for something warm like our Warm Willow Cider, March leans into something playful like Kiwi Irish Delight, and by September, we’re working with prickly pear when it’s at its best. It’s all about what feels right at that moment.”
That seasonal approach is matched by a commitment to keeping each cocktail fresh and true to the wine itself. Rather than relying on overly sweet mixers, the recipes are built from scratch using ingredients prepared on-site.
“We don’t use any spirits or bitters in our wine cocktails,” Valentine says. “If I want a certain flavor, I infuse the wine with fresh herbs, spices, fruit, or even cactus. It keeps everything fresh, not too sweet, and you still really taste the wine, just with a little something extra layered in.”
Designed for a wide audience, the book speaks to visitors, home entertainers, and wine lovers alike, while encouraging a more intuitive approach to mixing and pairing.
“It’s really for everyone,” Valentine adds. “You can try something new, share it with friends, or get creative with what you already have at home. If you make your own preserves, even better. You can start pairing flavors, enhancing notes in the wine. It opens the door to creativity. It should be fun, and for me, it always is.”
As D.A.Ranch continues to expand how its wines are experienced, “D.A.Ranch Wine Cocktail Recipes” reflects a broader philosophy: wine should feel approachable, adaptable, and meant to be explored. With this book release, that experience moves beyond the vineyard and into the home, one recipe and one season at a time.
