From boardrooms and classrooms to ballfields and board service, individuals across the state give their time, talent, and resources to strengthen their communities. Mission Monday shines a light on these difference-makers, exploring the motivation behind their service and the organizations addressing Arizona’s most pressing needs.
Today, we welcome Brandon Rafi, owner, president, and founder of Rafi Law Group, a member of the board of trustees at Brophy College Preparatory and founder of Rafi’s Hope.
What inspired you to get involved with this organization, and why has its mission remained important to you?
Joining the Brophy Board of Regents was an opportunity to invest in an institution that profoundly shaped my life. As an alumnus, you carry Brophy’s lessons, relationships, and values long after graduation. You also realize that your opportunities were made possible by those who came before you, creating a responsibility to do the same for future generations.
One experience that stayed with me was volunteering at St. Mary’s Food Bank. Years later, Rafi’s Hope continues to partner with St. Mary’s to fight food insecurity across Arizona. It is a full-circle reminder that lessons learned early in life can shape how you serve your community for decades.
My parents also taught me that success isn’t measured only by what you accomplish for yourself, but by how many people you help along the way. That perspective became the foundation for Rafi’s Hope.
What began as a community initiative now serves Arizona through volunteerism, charitable giving, and strategic partnerships. In 2026, Rafi’s Hope became an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, positioning us to serve even more children and families.
For those unfamiliar, can you share the core missions of the nonprofits?
The Brophy Fund is the cornerstone of annual giving at Brophy College Preparatory. It supports the people, programs, facilities, and financial aid that make the Brophy experience possible. These contributions help keep Brophy accessible to talented young men from all backgrounds while advancing its mission of forming leaders committed to service, faith, and justice.
Rafi’s Hope is dedicated to strengthening communities and improving the lives of children and families throughout Arizona. Launched as a community initiative in 2022, it was created with a simple goal: turn action into impact. Through partnerships with nonprofits, schools, health care organizations, and community leaders, Rafi’s Hope addresses food insecurity, education, youth development, family support, and holiday giving.
Since its launch, Rafi’s Hope has contributed more than 3,760 volunteer hours and donated more than $1 million to Arizona nonprofits and community organizations. Becoming a 501(c)(3) marks the next chapter in expanding that impact.
What is a program, initiative, or moment that truly captures the impact these nonprofit organizations are making right now?
At Brophy, we are especially proud of the Wellness Fund. Established with the Graf family in honor of Austin Graf ’24, the fund supports student counseling, wellness initiatives, and mental health programs. It reflects Brophy’s commitment to helping students thrive academically and personally.
At Rafi’s Hope, our annual Summer of Service has grown into a 12-week statewide effort involving hundreds of volunteers and community partners in Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma. During Arizona’s most challenging summer months, we work with organizations including St. Mary’s Food Bank, Ryan House, Valleywise Health, St. Vincent de Paul, Tucson Food Bank, Nourish, and the City of Yuma. Together, we address food insecurity, support families, provide educational resources, and strengthen communities.
How do you balance your professional life with your commitment to giving back, and what advice would you offer to others who want to do the same?
I don’t see leading Rafi Law Group, Rafi Law Services, and Rafi’s Hope and serving on the Brophy Board of Regents as separate commitments. They’re connected by a common purpose: creating opportunity, expanding access, and helping people reach their potential. Each organization serves that purpose differently. Rafi Law Group helps people through difficult moments. Rafi Law Services expands access to legal services. Rafi’s Hope invests directly in Arizona communities. My work with Brophy helps shape future generations of leaders. Balancing it all requires discipline, great teams, and clear priorities. These aren’t side projects or obligations. They’re passions.
My advice is simple: Find something bigger than yourself and commit to it. You don’t need to begin with a large donation or leadership position. Start by showing up consistently and using your skills and resources to help. Small actions, repeated over time, can create extraordinary impact.
If your philanthropic work had a theme song, what would it be and why?
“God’s Plan” by Drake. The title reminds me to stay grounded and use every opportunity to positively impact others.
Outside of your work with the organizations, what are three local spots that you especially love and why?
Some of my favorite family memories have been made at the Phoenix Zoo and McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, where we can slow down, spend time together, and enjoy experiences that are both fun and meaningful. Saturday mornings at Bosa Donuts are another favorite tradition, reminding me that the simplest moments together are often the ones families remember most.
