At Ling’s Wok Shop, bold flavors and wok-fired favorites have always been about more than what lands on the plate. This summer, the Scottsdale restaurant is giving guests another reason to dine with purpose through Cooking With a Cause, a three-month give-back campaign benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale, a nonprofit that has supported local youth since 1954.
From July through September, a portion of proceeds from every dish ordered from Ling’s Favorites will be donated directly to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale. The campaign gives guests a simple way to make their meal matter while enjoying the dishes they already love.
“This one is personal for me,” says John Banquil, owner of Ling’s Wok Shop. “My kids went to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale. Their friends have worked there. My nephews go there. My friends’ kids go there. It’s one of those organizations you don’t just hear about; you see the impact in your own circle and across the Valley. What really stands out to me is how they show up during those critical after-school hours from 3 to 6 p.m., when kids and teens often need support the most. We’re a lunch and dinner operation, so we understand the importance of being there for people during the hours that matter.”
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale was established in 1954 to help keep youth safe, productive, and supported during critical non-school hours. Today, the organization serves children and teens across the Northeast Valley, providing safe, affordable, and enriching spaces where young people can learn, build confidence, develop healthy habits, and form meaningful connections with caring adults.
What makes the Club’s work especially meaningful, Banquil said, is its commitment to accessibility. “Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale never turns a child away for inability to pay,” Banquil said. “In a city like Scottsdale, where the gap between wealth and need is real and wide, that commitment is not small. It’s what makes every other program they offer matter because it reaches the kids who need it most, not just the ones whose families can afford to opt in.”
