Cold beer, local dogs and a cause worth toasting? Flagstaff understood the assignment.
Historic Brewing Company and Dr. Kelly’s Surgical Unit have teamed up on Dog Days Witbier, a limited-release beer that turns an easygoing pour into meaningful support for Northern Arizona pets.
Brewed and canned in Flagstaff, the 4.6% ABV witbier benefits Dr. Kelly’s PAL Fund, which provides free and subsidized surgical care for pets whose owners are facing financial hardship. Every can and pint helps the organization step in when veterinary costs stand between an animal and the care it needs.
“This partnership is really about meeting a community need in a creative, local way,” says Doug Patriquin, co-founder of Dr. Kelly’s. “There are so many pets and families in Northern Arizona who need help accessing care, and the PAL Fund allows us to step in when cost becomes the barrier.”
The collaboration began when Dr. Kelly’s approached Historic Brewing with an idea for a fundraiser that could raise money and put more eyes on the PAL Fund’s work. A Flagstaff-made beer paired with a shared commitment to animal welfare made for a natural match.
That community spirit took center stage during Historic Brewing Company’s Hot Dog Days of Summer celebration on July 18. Rain complicated the afternoon but did not chase away the crowd. About 100 people came through for beer, adoptable dogs and a K9 demonstration.
One dog found a home during the event, while two other guests arranged follow-up visits with adoptable pups. Attendees also purchased Dog Days Witbier to go, allowing the fundraiser’s impact to travel well beyond the taproom.
“It was an incredible event on all fronts,” Patriquin says. “Thank you to the community for letting us be a part of it.”
Historic Brewing was equally ready to use its taps for something bigger than a seasonal release.
“We jumped at the chance to support their mission and help local animals get the care they need,” says Zack Stoll, head brewer at Historic Brewing Company. “Dr. Kelly’s does so much more than spay and neuter services. Their team provides essential veterinary care that gives pets a better chance at staying healthy, staying out of shelters and finding loving homes.”
Dog Days Witbier is available on tap and in cans at Historic Brewing Company in Flagstaff, with availability depending on demand. It is a local pour with a very good reason behind it: help a pet, support a neighbor and raise a glass while doing it.
