Insider Info

There's an extra layer inside the pastrami. Choosing a local deli is not just about lunch. It helps keep longtime Arizona businesses open, local teams employed and community dollars moving close to home.

There are sandwiches, and then there are sandwiches. The kind people plan lunch around. The kind that come with a pickle, a side, a slice of pie and a little family history stacked between the bread. Miracle Mile Deli has been serving that kind since 1949, and now the longtime Phoenix institution is celebrating 77 years with a throwback special that knows exactly what it is doing.

Through May 9, Miracle Mile Deli will host “Miracle Mile Deli Week,” serving a limited-time $19.49 special in honor of the year it all began. The deal includes a choice of the deli’s signature sandwiches, including the Pastrami, Straw, New Yorker or Combo, plus a side, a kosher pickle and a slice of pie.

It is a very Phoenix kind of anniversary: nostalgic, generous and best experienced with napkins within reach.

Founded by Brooklyn native Jack Grodzinsky, Miracle Mile Deli has grown into one of the Valley’s most familiar family restaurant names. Today, it is owned and operated by Jill and George Garcia, Grodzinsky’s daughter and son-in-law, and managed by Josh Garcia, Grodzinsky’s grandson.

That three-generation thread is part of the restaurant’s staying power. Miracle Mile Deli is not just serving lunch. It is serving the kind of classic deli experience that keeps showing up in family routines, office catering orders and “where should we eat?” group texts across Phoenix.

The anniversary also arrives with a bigger message: supporting local still matters.

“Independent restaurants are feeling pressure from every direction right now, from food costs to labor,” Josh Garcia, VP of Miracle Mile Deli, says. “When people choose to support local, it makes a real impact. It helps businesses like ours continue to employ local staff and supports other Arizona companies we rely on, like Noble Bread and Shamrock Farms. It all stays right here in our community.”

Miracle Mile Deli is also offering a seasonal gift card promotion from May 1 through June 15, with customers receiving $100 in gift cards for $77. Conveniently, that window lands right in the middle of Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduations and teacher appreciation season, also known as the annual “please show up with something useful” stretch.

Located at 4433 N. 16th St. in Phoenix, Miracle Mile Deli is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The menu spans the deli’s signature sandwiches, salads, comfort food, burgers and beer on tap, with catering offerings for anyone smart enough to outsource the crowd-feeding.

Seventy-seven years in, Miracle Mile Deli is still doing what Phoenix legends do best: feeding generations, keeping it local and proving that a good sandwich has serious staying power.
